LECHLADE-ON-THAMES COMMUNITY LIBRARY SHORT STORY AND POEM COMPETITION

The Lechlade Library are launching the Lechlade-on-Thames Community Library Short Story and Poem competition to engage Children living in Lechlade and surrounding areas whilst the community are in self isolation during the Coronavirus period 2020.

Entries must be received before 30th June 2020. Judging will take place after that date and winners notified as soon as judging has concluded. A full list of winners will be published on Social media, Local magazines and The Lechlade Library window.

The competition is open to children School Years 3 to 9 in the Lechlade catchment area including Eastleach, Southrop and Filkins. There will be two groups School Yr 3-6 and  School Yr 7-9.

The Short Story should not exceed 300 words.

The Poem can be of any length but should not be too short.

There are no restrictions on the Story subject but could be about an event or adventure, real or imaginary, that happened to you in your house or garden when you had to stay home or how the Coronavirus has affected your family, your activities, your pets.

There are no restrictions on the Poem but may be similar to the Story subject and could be about being on your own or spending time with your family.

None of the items submitted will be judged on spelling, grammar, punctuation etc.

We would like your story or poem to be exciting and compelling reading and written in computer “Word format” so that it can be read by the judges using technology. Alternatively it could be hand written and scanned.

Each age group will be judged in respect of the category “Story” or “Poem” and a prize will be issued to First, Second and Third in their group to the value in Book Tokens of £50, £25 and £10

The Judges decision will be final.

If sufficient Stories or Poems are received, at a later date,  consideration will be given to collating them into a permanent format.
