Thank you to the many people who joined us for the official re-opening of the library on December 5th 2024 by Pam Ayres MBE.
This was the lovely conclusion to our refurbishment project. With perfect empathy, personal stories, and some trademark poetry, Pam declared the library open again. She went on to read all of the winning entries from the poetry competition arranged in line with the re-opening. Then spent significant time speaking with everyone, having photographs taken and giving autographs. For the record, all of the poetry entries were amazing. Clearly there is talent locally – watch out Pam, but also, thank you Pam..
Everyone appears very happy with our new surroundings. It is light and airy with much more book capacity. The finish is set off by the beautiful murals painted by local artist, Laura Thornton and custom furniture built by local craftsman, Riaan Kritzinger.
We have added an evening opening session, particularly aimed at those in full time employment, to make it easier for you to borrow books or seek information. We are now opening every Wednesday from 4pm to 7pm and hope that you will be able to make use of this.
We are also exploring how to increase the activities in the library for the benefit of the local community.
Starting in February, Jennie Turner Maskell will offer a monthly craft morning. Come along and join in. Starts at 10.30.
If you want to learn how to play Mahjong, then email us at info@lechladelibrary.co.uk to book your place. We meet the first and third Wednesdays of every month.
Discussions have started to set up a series of literature workshops. We hope these will be given by a local Language and Literature expert. Watch out for more announcements.
We are also open to consider other activities. Please share your ideas
If you haven’t been in to see the results of the refurbishment, we hope you will find the time to visit. We look forward to welcoming you.
