The Buscot and Coleshill Estates

In 1940, the Coleshill Estate became the perfect choice for the headquarters of the Auxiliary Units. Also known as Churchill’s ‘Secret Army’, these small patrols were designed to wreak havoc behind enemy lines had Britain been invaded during the Second World War.

Coleshill offered a large and secluded country house, numerous outbuildings and plenty of countryside, with no bus route in and out of the village – all of which made it the ideal spot for such a secret organisation.

You can find out more about Colehill in the Second World War on one of our guided walks, which take place monthly from March to November.

Discover the detailed history of unit’s training and visit some of the remaining Second World War features around the village, including the Guard House, pictured, as well as the site of Coleshill House and our replica underground bunker.

The next walk is on Thursday 23 April and lasts for around two hours, beginning at 2pm. Book here now: https://rebrand.ly/EventsAtColeshill

Southrop

SAVE THE DATE – Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th May, from 1pm to 5pm.

Every two years Southrop village opens its private gardens to visitors, inviting them into the living, breathing heart of this historic community, to wander garden paths that reveal the careful designs of generations. Each garden tells a story. Expect wisteria-draped arches, formal borders, and fragrant wildflower meadows. Highlights include Thyme’s Kitchen Garden, where produce follows the rhythms of the seasons, and the village school’s wildlife garden, alive with activity as children develop a connection with the natural world.

Proceeds support village amenities, continuing the same grassroots spirit that has sustained the community for generations.

Highlights

10+ gardens open 1–5pm on both days

Tickets, teas and raffle entries will be available from midday at Southrop Village Hall, GL7 3PB

Blue Badge parking and easy access from Jubilee Close

Registered assistance dogs welcome

In tandem with SOUTHROP OPEN GARDENS weekend.

Two lovely events; same dates, same village.

Highworth

The 2026 Highworth Jazz Festival lineup is officially LIVE… and this year is shaping up to be one of our most exciting yet.

We’ve curated a programme packed with new talent, international artists, and returning festival favourites who helped make the last two years unforgettable.

Just to name a few, we have:

Snowboy & The Latin Section – Europe’s leading Afro Cuban Jazz group, and one of the most dynamic live acts touring today. This is the first time we’ve ever featured Latin Jazz at the festival.

The Marcia Bamberg Quartet – A breathtaking international vocalist bringing world class gypsy jazz to Highworth. Featuring some of Europe’s finest gypsy jazz players, this group is a standout addition to any lineup.

Ray Gelato Swing Quartet — Our 2026 Festival Closer. An absolute icon in his own right, known as the “Godfather of Swing.” Expect a high energy performance blending swing, jump blues, and classic jazz, Ray is the perfect finale to this year’s festival.

And of course we have… returning favourites! We’re thrilled to welcome back several incredible artists — including the exceptional Vimala Rowe, whose performance at the Wine Bar was a definite highlight.

Over 15 performers. One amazing town. One unforgettable day.

Tickets are available online now through our website and bio. Any further enquiries, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Its set to be a special event so we recommend getting your tickets as early as possible!
