SAVE THE DATE
Autumn wouldn’t be the same without it. Mark your calendars for the Fairford, Faringdon, Filkins and Burford Ploughing Championship and Country Show – one of the best days in the rural calendar.
The Fairford, Faringdon, Filkins and Burford Ploughing Society has been bringing the rural community together since 1947 – and what a story it has to tell.
It all started when four local Farming Clubs, set up during the Second World War at the request of the Ministry of Agriculture, merged their ploughing matches into one annual event. The idea was simple: encourage farmers to adopt more efficient methods of producing crops, milk, meat and eggs – and competition ploughing fitted perfectly into that programme.
Nearly 80 years later, what began as a practical wartime initiative has grown into one of the region’s most loved country shows – a huge annual event held at venues within roughly 10 miles of Lechlade, run entirely by volunteers, with profits going to local charities.
